How to install Peel & Stick wallpaper
🪚 PART 1: GUIDE – “How to install Peel & Stick wallpaper”
Installing self-adhesive wallpaper is quick, easy and without too much mess!
Follow these steps and transform your walls in just a few hours.
📏 1. Measure the surface before ordering
-
Before placing an order, measure the exact area of the wall where the wallpaper will be placed.
-
Make sure you have enough wallpaper – always order with at least 5–10% extra .
-
With patterned wallpaper, it may take longer for the pattern to align nicely between the rows.
-
Also check the roll dimensions indicated on the product page:
-
Most rolls are 0.45 mx 5.0 m
-
Some rolls are 0.45 mx 10.0 m
⮕ Please note that one roll can cover an area of approximately 2.25–4.5 m² .
-
💡 Example: If the wall is 2.5 m high and 3 m wide (total 7.5 m²), you will need at least 2 rolls (5 m²) + a small margin to continue the pattern.
🧹 2. Prepare the surface
-
The wall must be clean, dry, smooth and dust-free.
-
Remove dirt, dust, old wallpaper or loose paint.
-
Once you have washed the wall, let it dry completely (at least 2–3 days) .
-
If the wall has just been painted, wait at least 3-4 days before installing.
⚠️ Important: Peel & Stick wallpaper is moisture-resistant - this means that moisture cannot penetrate the wallpaper.
If the wall is not completely dry, moisture can remain under the wallpaper and cause mold or bubbling.
✂️ 3. Cut and plan the pattern
-
Measure the height of the wall and cut the strips with a few cm of margin.
-
If the wallpaper is patterned, lay the strips on the floor and align the pattern before installing.
-
Mark a guide line on the wall so that the first strip is perfectly straight — this is the basis of the entire work.
🪄 4. Start at the top and smooth down
-
Remove the protective paper about 20–30 cm and place the wallpaper on the top edge of the wall.
-
Carefully align and smooth with the palm of your hand or a soft cloth to remove air bubbles.
- If you want to use a regular wallpaper installation smoothing tool, be careful with it, as sharp pieces of putty and unevenness that may be on the wall can ruin the wallpaper if you smooth the wallpaper too vigorously.
-
Next, slowly pull the release paper down while smoothing the adhesive part onto the wall. In general, this wallpaper sticks to the wall nicely, you just have to be careful not to get caught in it.
-
If an air bubble forms, pull it out and smooth it out again.
🧽 5. Continue with the next wallpaper strip
-
Place the next strip of wallpaper so that the edges overlap slightly (1–2 mm overlap).
-
This is important because Peel & Stick wallpaper has no stretchability.
A small overlap at the beginning ensures that the wall remains even and the pattern is uninterrupted. -
Smooth the joints properly and cut off the excess with a sharp knife.
đź’§ 6. Finishing and maintenance
-
Once the wallpaper is in place, press all edges firmly.
-
Clean with a damp, soft cloth if necessary - the wallpaper is washable and durable.
-
If you want to change it, gently pull the wallpaper from one corner - it won't leave marks or damage the wall. If there is a whole painted surface underneath, not a single piece will come off.
🏡 Tip:
👉 Before covering the entire wall, try a small test piece to make sure the surface fits and you like the pattern.
